Isn’t it typical that there are those two times of the year most people think about really cleaning house? Spring and Fall come to mind. The first because we’re “airing out” the winter time (in cold climates) where the house has been shut up to keep out the chill. The second because… well I’m not sure why, but maybe just to get ready for Winter?
If you’re trying to save money and the planet, it is true that vinegar and water plus using newspaper versus paper towels works like a charm – especially against hard water stains. Here in Vegas the water is incredibly hard, and no we don’t have a water softener (we did but it’s a long story). Our windows on the outside – no matter how we adjust the sprinklers – get hit. Of course the result is a build up of hard water stains. Anticipating hours of scrubbing, hubby was prepared for the worse. My suggestion of the above ingredients and voila! in one pass the whole window sparkling clean! (Use a squeege after you’ve applied the water & vinegar, then use the newspaper to “mop up.”)

I have used newspapers to clean the windows for years, it works really well, especially if you have a lot of print on the page. Great for the inside windows of the car. Only downside is you have to give your hands a good wash afterward.

So common place, yet so versatile! Years ago before we all got sucked into buying this cleaner and that new product, vinegar was a mainstay. We’ve found multiple uses for it since this was posted. Cleans just about everything. (I also agree that rubber gloves with the newsprint might come in “handy.”)
